Switching the source through system settings
Most Android smartphones allow users to change the system font type or appearance without the need for a third party application. Of course here the customization options are smaller than those available in an app intended for that. The way the system font may change may also vary by model manufacturer, but generally the path is as follows: Settings> Display> Default Font.
This, for example, is the path to be used by Samsung smartphone users, such as our illustrative image. The brand interface has few options, but you can download new fonts from this panel by tapping "Download Fonts".
Samsung's system directs the user to Samsung's app store, Samsung Apps, so they can choose their new source. Most options are free, but there are some paid ones. These options should be similar on smartphones from this manufacturer, but there are some more basic Galaxy line models that don't have the download option.
Switching the system source through a launcher
If you want to go a little further than what your device manufacturer offers, such as the example I mentioned above, the most viable alternative is to install a launcher. You should probably already have a favorite launcher with this feature, but if you don't have one already, you can check our list below and choose the option that suits you best:
Our option here is Launcher Action 3, which offers default options and also allows new fonts to be installed, which is not possible for options like Smart Switch and Arrow Launcher. Now if you want to go beyond what is offered by a launcher, the most interesting for you might be installing a specific font management application. Let's talk about them in the topic below.
Best font apps for Android
Google Play offers a number of applications that change the system default font. It is valid to say that most need root access to function properly. We separated two options below:
The FontFix app can be a great alternative for those not using a Samsung device, for example. You can quickly search for the desired font, but it is valid to say that the application will depend on the permission of your system. Devices like the Galaxy, for example, will not have problems with this application.
Everything you need to do in FontFix is ??to select the desired font, download it and install it. Additional fonts can be found for download within the app, but the installation file is not downloaded from the Play Store, meaning you will have to enable the "Unknown Fonts" option to use the downloaded fonts separately.
The app provides useful information for the user, such as fonts that have already been installed on devices. It is also possible to verify the amount of space that will be occupied in storage with the installation and other additional information.

IFont is another application that can change the system font, but hardly works on non-Galaxy devices. To be honest with you, many brands block the installation of third party typographic fonts on the system. We did the test on an S7 Edge and everything worked normally.
In the settings menu you will be able to select the manufacturer of your device, which will be useful for you to find out if there is any restriction to the application. In the case of Xperia Z3 +, another device we tested, it was not possible to install a selected font without root access on the device. So be aware of the root on your device.
One of the main advantages of IFont is language packs, which download fonts specific to the language selected by the user. In the case of English, for example, the font package will not come with accent on words, as in the case of Portuguese (not available in the app).

Now, if you don't want to make such a radical change to your device, you can only modify the source of some instant messaging applications via code, like WhatsApp, for example. Have you thought about making your conversations more fun using different sources? Well, the complete tutorial for you to try this feature is in the article below:
