MM Answers: How to find and use special characters in macOS?

Today day of our column MM Answers!

The question of the day:

How to find and use special characters in macOS?

Keyboard and emoji viewers

Accessing iOS emojis is very easy, just by pressing a button on the keyboard. Already not macOS, except for MacBooks Pro with Touch Bar (which have a special selector for the stickers on the bar), choose emojis on Ma computers a little more complicated.

On the other hand, special symbols are much easier to find. And the tip: emojis are in exactly the same place! I'm talking about the keyboard, emoji and symbol viewer a simple icon that can be fixed to your menu bar.

To enable this viewer, follow the instructions below:

  1. Comes Keyboard System Preferences;
  2. In the first tab (?Keyboard?), enable the option ?Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar?.

This puts a new icon in your menu bar, which not only serves to quickly access your emoji and special characters, but also changes keyboard languages ??in macOS.

Adding special characters

Natively, the selection of special characters and symbols will be filled with a good selection of items, but you can add even more. For example, technical symbols (,, ?e) or special letters of the world's alphabets!

  1. Click on the new cone we just added in the menu bar;
  2. Then in ?Show Emoji and Symbols?;

  3. Click on the gear in the upper left corner of the window and select "Customize List";
  4. Check the check boxes you want.

To use any of the special characters, simply open the selector and double-click the item or use the Space key combination simultaneously when a text field is active.
