Kardiaband is the first FDA approved Apple Watch medical bracelet; Apple Launches Heart Studies App

In yet another endeavor for the wonderful combination of technology and health, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration, which deals with food and drug regulation in the United States) has just approved the first medical accessory for Apple Watch.

The bracelet Kardiaband It was created by the medical company AliveCor to provide a more accurate diagnosis for ECG testing. The accessory was already in use in Europe, but has only now been approved by the FDA, which makes it possible to market in the US.

We live in a world where consumers want to know every minute what is happening (in their bodies), and for the first time, they may have an FDA-approved, clinical grade medical tool.

Vic gundotra, CEO of AliveCor.

Kardiaband

The Apple Watch Kardiaband strap has a metal sensor to communicate with the company's application and can perform electrocardiogram testing, and can identify when the wearer has abnormal heart rate or atrial fibrillation (AF).

In the Apple Watch app, I need to start reading and stay for 30 seconds with my thumb on the sensor and wait for completion. During this time, the user may speak into the clock microphone so as to observe also the presence of throbbing or shortness of breath or even eating habits that may be linked to heart rate dissonance.

Recordings are stored and can be viewed in the iPhone app and, if necessary, shared with the person's doctor. In addition, data is also sent to the Sade app.

The AliveCor app for Apple Watch uses the heart rate sensor itself present on Ma watches to take readings every five seconds. This feature was only possible thanks to learning the wearable machine, says Gundotra.

We were able to run a deep neural network on Apple Watch and keep it running for 14 hours on the new Watch Series 3 battery. Apple deserves congratulations for creating a platform that allowed us to do this I mean we think we have the app most advanced ever made for Apple Watch.

The Kardiaband can be purchased directly from the official website for $ 200, and the company also has the KardiaMobile device, which can be placed on the back of the iPhones for reading, which sells for $ 100.

Speaking of heartbeat monitoring, Apple itself has just made available a specific application for studies in this area, the Apple Heart Study.

Sorry, app not found.

The studies will be organized in partnership with Stanford University School of Medicine and, through the app, Apple Watches owners will be able to participate in cardiac studies to help collect data on irregular heart rhythms and to notify users who may have atrial fibrillation (AFib).

If the user is notified by the app of any irregularities in their heartbeat, they may receive a free video consultation on their iPhone by a study physician.

Jeff Williams, Apple COO, told us a bit about it:

Every week, we receive incredible customer reports about how Apple Watch has affected their lives, including finding out they suffer from AFib. These stories inspire us and we are determined to do more to help people understand their health. Working alongside the medical community, we can not only inform people about certain health conditions, but also hope to advance the discoveries of heart science.

The app is only available in the United States for users 22 and older using an Apple Watch Series 1, 2, or 3.
