DroneDeploy uses drones to monitor Great Barrier Reef in Australia

The company of US software DroneDeploy go use drones to help monitor the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. The startup raised $ 35 million in a round of Series D investments, thanks to the funds AirTree Ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners.

Pas the first in the world to implement statewide technology

DroneDeploy will work in partnership with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, organization responsible for protecting the Great Barrier Reef. They will use predominantly autonomous drones to capture reef images and turn them into a data-rich map. This map will allow the authorities to track and work better on coral protection and restoration.

How does the site point Drone DJAirTree Venture does not usually invest in companies outside of Australia or New Zealand. Nevertheless, they made an exception for DroneDeploy.

Australia's Great Barrier Reef consists of 2,900 reefs, 600 islands and 300 coral atis. It has a length of 2,200 kilometers and widths ranging from 30km to 740km. This is the largest structure in the world composed of living organisms and can be seen from space.

In 1981, the coral strip was elected one of the world heritage sites by UNESCO. It is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, whose main purpose is to limit fishing and tourism in the area, reducing the impacts of human action.
