We recently introduced an update on the forwarded message tag to help people identify when they receive messages that have been forwarded several times before, as a chain, explained the WhatsApp spokesperson.
With the change, messages forwarded more than five times will be flagged with the Frequently Forwarded tag next to a double arrow icon. Currently, content forwarded in the app is marked with a single arrow.

WhatsApp will also notify users who are forwarding messages already passed multiple times with the alert. This message will be marked as forwarded many times. The measure applies to texts, photos, videos and audio sent by the messenger. While in TechTudo testing, it was possible to see the message "Forwarded Once" in the conversation data, the company said it did not display the exact number of times the message was forwarded.
The feature, which has been tested on WhatsApp Beta since March this year, is part of WhatsApp's efforts to combat misinformation, such as limiting the number of shares to five people at once.
