Windows does not start on your PC: what to do?

Although not a very common problem, something very bad that can happen to your PC when Windows does not start. Whether or not, without your operating system, it won't exactly do much. So this is really one of the situations that can most scare a common user. The good news is that there are some steps you can take in such a case to reverse the situation or find out the problem.

Before any tips on how to solve the problem if Windows does not start, I need to keep one thing in mind: Always back up your PC data, files, and programs. If you have a saved backup, it will be easier to recover your data if you need to format the hard drive.

2. Recall the latest changes

When you realize that your Windows does not start, the first thing to remember is what were your last system or PC changes in general. Remember if you downloaded a file, installed a program, visited a different site, etc.

Even an update of a program or of Windows itself may have caused the problem. This may be the key to recovering Windows or even preventing it from happening in the future.

3. Safe Mode

If Windows does not start or displays a blue screen with a generic message, your best bet is to access the PC in "Safe Mode". In many cases, the problem may have been caused only by a driver update that went wrong.

To do that, quite simple. The "Safe Mode" screen usually appears whenever the PC has a problem and cannot boot Windows.

If she doesn't show up on her own, you can do it manually. Once the PC is on, keep pressing the F8 key until the "Safe Mode" option appears.

In this mode, you can check for possible errors and even do a ?System Restore? to try to reverse the problem. In general, this is the surest way to get Windows to work without having to use another system or format the disk.

4. Use Ubuntu

If your Windows really got corrupted in any way, an alternative to accessing your files using a version of Linux such as Ubuntu. It is a very simple operating system to install and use.

As it is also completely free, it is a very easy way to use your PC as soon as possible. This way you also have no idea if the problem is really Windows or another factor of your computer.

Ubuntu can be installed even on a Pen Drive, as we teach in this tutorial. This is very useful if you have no way to access the hard drive or allocate space for it to Linux.

5. Install Windows again

Finally, you may need to install Windows on your PC again. This can be kind of bad and laborious, but it can be the only way to solve the problem in more serious cases.

The good news is that newer versions of Windows use your account and your PC components to recognize that you already have a licensed version of the system. After the installation, simply log in with your Microsoft account and click on the activation option.
