OBS Studio 23 is released for Linux, Windows and macOS

With the arrival of OBS Studio version 23, the project's devs erase the difference in versions between operating systems that existed until version 22.

– Integration with Streaming Services (currently for Windows only)

When you are logged in with your Twitch or Mixer account (services currently available) you will not need to enter the transmission key, and you will also have access to features on these platforms, such as the chat panel or configuration panels. and transmission statistics;

With your Twitch account logged in, in addition to having access to the chat panel (with BBTX / FFZ support) you will also be able to access the Stream Information panel where you can change the title, the game, among other things on live, as well as getting information on how many viewers are on live, all within the OBS Studio itself.

Integration with Mixer: Chat Panel

YouTube, Facebook and other popular streaming services will soon be integrated with OBS-Studio

– NVENC and Encoding Enhancements (Windows)

A new implementation of NVENC has been added, which has improved performance by reducing system and resource impact. To enable, go to Settings, Exit Tab, and under Encoder select New (NVENC) Hardware. Note that the new implementation is not available on Windows 7 due to operating system limitations; the old implementation will be used in this case.

New Features Added New NVENC Implementation:

Psycho-visual Tuning: Allows encoder settings that optimize bit rate usage to increase visual quality, especially in high-motion situations, at the cost of increased GPU utilization. This increases the image quality. Qualitative measurements like PSNR may have a lower score, but the video may look better to human viewers.

Look-ahead: Activates dynamic B-frames. If disabled, the encoder will always use the number of B-frames specified in the 'Max B-frames' setting. If enabled, increase visual quality by using only as many B frames as necessary, up to the maximum cost of GPU usage.

Other changes:

Added audio filter Limiter and Expander;

Added support for VAAPI encoder for Linux;

Added support for multi-track audio outputs in advanced FFmpeg configuration;

Added tool for Decklink outputs in Tools menu. OBS is now allowed to be sent to a Decklink device.

Installing OBS-Studio on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS and Linux Mint 19.1

To install OBS Studio on your Ubuntu and Linux Mint you will use their official PPA repository. It's quite simple to do that, you will open the terminal and type (or copy and paste) the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: obsproject / obs-studio -y && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install obs-studio -y

That done, just put your password and wait for the installation. If you need to install on any distro other than Ubuntu and Mint, just follow the unofficial alternatives informed on the project's GitHub, such as the version on Snap and FlatpakOr you can find the method for your favorite distro in this own project guide.

The most striking part, without a doubt, is the integration with the streaming services. Whoever has a channel in them needs a well-organized way and easy access to resources and this version of OBS comes to supply this.

Let's wait to get to Linux too. Another point was the enhancement of the encoders, such as VAAPI for Intel and AMD and NVENC on Nvidia, especially for the new Turing architecture of the new cards, the latter using Linux and macOS will also have to wait a little longer. before use, but we hope the wait is short.

Hope to see you next post, big hug.
