iPhone: iOS 13 begins to warn that Facebook uses mobile phone Bluetooth | Operational systems

IOS 13 has started to catch unexpected moments when Facebook tries to use iPhone Bluetooth. According to reports of people testing the new version of the operating system, which will be released to everyone next Thursday (19), the notification warning about connectivity can appear at any time, with no apparent explanation.

In a statement issued on the 9th, the social network admitted that Apple's software may issue new alerts about access to the device's location features, but it has not made clear whether this involves the use of Bluetooth. The company chose to call the warning only "reminder". The user has the option to deny function access directly by the notification.

The notification comes from the new iOS monitoring engine, which aims to better clarify what apps do in the background and when they access sensitive information. The measure aims to limit the use of permissions the user has already granted: instead of having full freedom to exploit resources already authorized, the application will depend on a new approval each time.

During the announcement of the appeal in the first half of the year, Apple CEO Tim Cook called the novelty a way to prevent "our own information being used as weapons against ourselves."

Bluetooth is one of the means by which a cell phone can be located, and its operation for this purpose is part of what is called Location Services on the iPhone. Although the use of connectivity to determine location is not new, it was unclear at what time applications accessed the feature on their mobile phone.

The new iOS alert indicates that Facebook can enable Bluetooth in various situations. In a test conducted by the expert website TechCrunch, the alert popped up when browsing the social network's video feed, and other reports on the web mention that the pop-up may come up in other activities.

The Bluetooth of mobile phones has a typical range of ten meters, which makes the technology ideal for determining the location of the user in a short radius. It is speculated that this would be one of the ways used to find out if two people just met and thus suggest one another as a friend on the platform. Facebook, however, does not explain how the data collected is applied to the location tool.

O TechTudo contacted Facebook, which said it still did not have a position on the subject.

Facebook revealed the same day that it allows you to turn off your app's location services on Android 10. Instead of having to explore system settings, the change can be made directly in the app's settings. The Google system, however, does not warn you when the app is accessing phone features in the background once the initial authorization is given, the app is free to choose how it uses Bluetooth or any other function.

The new Android has recently arrived for smartphones from Google's Pixel line, but it is unknown when it should land for phones from brands like Samsung and Motorola.
