What does Google Lens? Learn how it works and how to use the feature | Internet

Google Lens is a tool used to recognize physical objects and places, scan texts and search products in online stores, right from your mobile camera. You can use the service through Google Assistant on most Android smartphones, Google Photos, and the Google Lens app, which is also available for iPhone (iOS). When taking a picture with the feature, the environment analyzed using augmented reality and artificial intelligence. The function information comes mainly from the Google database.

Google Lens is an image recognition application that makes information available to the user from artificial intelligence. To use the tool with Google Photos, for example, you need to capture the image, access the app and trigger the function. The feature is also available through Google Assistant for Android 5.0 or higher, but it is worth checking if your device is compatible.

What can I do with the feature?

Google Lens has a wide variety of functions, such as identifying objects and places, bringing product information, comparing prices and telling you where to find the reviewed item. The tool is also capable of translating text from Google Translate, connecting your phone to Wi-Fi by capturing an image with network name and password, checking barcodes and QR codes on products, and collecting contact information via middle of the photo, phone number and address.

Here's a list of popular Google Lens features:

  • Clothing and household goods: locates product names, and even offers similar options. Also shows the stores to buy them;
  • Bar Codes: You can use it to find information about a product, how and where to buy it;
  • Business Card: save the phone number or address in a contact from the photo capture of the data;
  • Books, music and movies: Taking a photo from the cover of a book, a piece of music, or a movie poster, Google Lens provides commentary and information about the subject;
  • Building or landmark: see historical facts, addresses and opening hours;
  • Plant or animal: identifies the breeds and species.

To enable the feature through Google Assistant, just follow three steps.

Step 1. Press the home button on your smartphone or search for the Google Virtual Assistant on your mobile phone. When the program opens at the bottom of the screen, tap the colored balls and then the Lens cone;

Step 2. Activate the Camera to use Lens. Then just make the catch;

Step 3. To enable the feature in Google Photos, I need to take the photo with the camera, open the file through Google Photos and touch the Lens icon. To learn more about the product, tap Search;

Step 4. To use Google Lens from the app, point your smartphone camera at objects and locations. Tap the shutter to identify information about them.

Google Lens has icons at the top of the screen with options for which features you want to use. Tap the magnifying glass if you want to search about the product or in the notebook if you want to scan some text. To translate, choose the last option left and take the photo. To compare prices and find out where to find a particular product, tap the shopping cart icon; and to see details about a plate or menu, tap the fork and knife.
