Google announced on Thursday (26) new features for Google Maps dedicated to users who do not need private cars to get around. One is a motorcycle-specific navigation mode, which is already available in the Android and iPhone (iOS) application. The feature lets you search for a motorcycle route and compare the duration with the time taken by car. Also, in the coming days, the app will receive the "Travel Safely" feature, which promises to warn you when the Uber and Cabify driver leaves the original route.

The new motorcycle navigation mode will be one more section next to the car, bike, public transit, transportation app, and foot options on Google Maps. The goal is to show routes that can only be traveled by two-wheeled vehicles, possibly with reduced time compared to the route normally suggested for larger vehicles.
The news has the potential to help improve the flow of more than 26 million motorcycles registered in Brazil, according to data from the National Traffic Department (Denatran) for 2018, the equivalent of one for every eight inhabitants. According to Google, the function can be useful for both motorbike professionals as well as those who also have a car and need to know which of the two vehicles to leave home to reach their destination more easily.
When you choose to leave your home with an application car, the "Travel safely" feature will monitor the route set on your phone and warn you if the driver leaves the route. If there is deviation of more than 500 meters, the app will send a notification to show the location of the vehicle and allow to compare with the original path. To do this, simply activate the "Route Detection Alerts" function. In an emergency, the user may use location sharing to notify a trusted contact.
