Eight 'Hidden' Spotify Tips and Resources You Need to Know | Players

The Spotify app for Android and iPhone (iOS) has some features that few people know about that can be useful during everyday use. The streaming service, for example, lets you mute unwanted artists so that they no longer appear in your playlists, discover live shows in town, add playback controls to apps like Google Maps and Waze, and share music using a specific QR Code to each artist.

Another feature allows you to continue listening to music even after the current playlist ends, without having to search for new tracks manually. Check out the following list of eight Spotify resources and tips that can be useful in everyday life.

1. Share music on social networks

Music played on Spotify can be sent directly to social networks. For Instagram Stories and Snapchat, files are added as resizable stickers, illustrated with the album cover, track name, and artist name. Posts can receive text, drawings and GIFs as normal. To share a song, open the play screen, tap the three points in the upper right corner and choose "Share". Then simply choose the desired social network.

It is also possible to share the songs with Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter, in link format for playback of the track. Playlists and podcasts can also be shared using the same path.

2. Find out about upcoming shows

Spotify shows the schedule of shows that will take place in the user's city. At the top of the list are artists that may be of interest to the user, based on what has been heard lately. Just below, the app shows music shows of other styles. All options are displayed with date, place and link to purchase tickets. To find the list of upcoming shows, simply go to the "Search" tab and find the "Shows" section.

Spotify also sends push notifications on the phone, warning you when a library artist will perform shows in the user's region. To enable alerts, go to the "Home" tab, tap the gear icon and go to "Notifications". Then just activate the "Show Notifications" section keys.

3. Listen to music without stopping

This feature prevents the app from being silent when a playlist comes to an end. After the feature was activated, Spotify started a mix of similar songs that were being played when the last track ended. This way, the user can continue to listen to music from the same segment without having to search for other options manually. To enable, go to the settings gear, go to "Playback" and activate the "AutoPlay" key.

There are several ways to save your mobile data packet while using Spotify, ideal for when your phone is without a Wi-Fi connection or using a weak signal connection. One of these enables the native "Data Saver" option, which sets the music quality to low and disables Canvas animations. To activate, go to the settings gear, go to "Data Saver" and activate the switch.

Another option is to set the quality of the music during streaming. To do this, go to "Music Quality" and choose the quality of the transmission. The lower it is, the less data it consumes in return, the fidelity of music may be impaired. Below, it is possible to determine the quality of the song to be downloaded, following the same logic: the higher it is, the more data to spend.

Spotify lets you choose which device you want the music to play on, and switch between devices with just one tap. This means your phone can have music start on your computer, Chromecast, or other devices that are signed in with the same account. To use Spotify as a "remote control", open the playback screen and tap the device icon in the lower left corner. Then just touch the device you want. Playback will start immediately.

6. Share music with a QR Code

Spotify has its own QR Code system, called Spotify Codes, which is displayed on the covers of songs, albums or artists and can be read by the app to quickly start playing that audio. The code is useful for you to easily share a song with a friend. To save a QR Code, just tap on it and choose "Save to Photos".

7. Control Spotify in Map Applications

You can control Spotify music playback without leaving the Google Maps and Waze map applications. An integration between apps makes it easy to control music, allowing you to play, pause, advance or rewind music in a map-integrated window, with the aim of taking less attention away from the driver when handling the device in traffic.

8. Mute unwanted artists

Spotify lets you mute unwanted artists so they won't appear in playlists and have their music played in libraries, radio stations and podcasts. With the feature enabled, the app skips artist tracks and skips songs in playlists. To block an artist, go to their page, touch the three dots of options, and choose "Don't touch this artist." Currently, the function is only available for iPhone.
