19 Manufacturers sued for patent infringement

Canadian Wi-Lan is suing 19 companies that allegedly have products on the market that violate technology patented in 1996 when they offer Bluetooth services.

Targeted by the lawsuit are names as well-known as Apple, Acer, Dell, HP, LG or Intel and also mobile phone manufacturing companies, as the company alleges infringement of its intellectual property in making wireless technology available on mobile phones and laptops.

The patent registered by the company has to do with the «method for sharing and projecting frequencies on a communications network», according to Reuters.

To put an end to the dispute, the company requires unspecified damages.

The use of justice to resolve issues related to patents makes news news almost daily, especially in the United States. One of the most recent cases is the dispute between Apple and HTC, which led the former to sue the second, but it is not the only one. Apple is also involved in lawsuits with Nokia and Fujitsu.

Wi-Lan was born in 1992 and currently licenses its technology to approximately 220 companies worldwide.
