Henrique Granadeiro, PT’s president today presented an estimate of the group that points to investments in the order of 720 million euros made over the last 10 years by telecommunications operators “parasites that surfed on PT’s network”, referring to alternative operators . The number was provided to show what the PT president considers a sign of the poor orientation of the sector’s regulation, since liberalization, excessively focused on the opening of existing infrastructures.
According to the same data, PT invested 6.7 billion euros in the last 10 years, of which 930 million were allocated to PT Multimedia. Vodafone invested 2.1 billion euros and Sonaecom 1.8 billion euros.
Although stressing the differences in values, the official stressed that the investment was very high, both in Portugal and in Europe, to produce results for the Information Society and to improve the services provided to the client, much below those achieved in the United States, 2,4 per cent in Europe, against 4.2 per cent in the United States.
The official answered a question related to PT’s investment level over the past few years and the conditions that would have to be created to ensure the viability of new investments in next generation networks.
“We must move towards creating better prices, but this must be based on efficiency”, he also defended, considering that the price has also had an excessive focus on regulatory measures, to the detriment of other aspects.
