PRIME and its predecessor, POE, received 34 thousand applications in the last seven years, mostly related to projects to support innovation, underlying most of the available instruments. The information was provided yesterday by Nelson de Souza, PRIME manager at the Communications Congress.

The official stressed that over the past seven years, this type of program has granted 4.5 billion euros in support, helping to generate investments of 14 billion euros, as a result of the support to 14 thousand projects.

The next community support framework covers the interval between 2007 and 2013 and is being finalized by the Government in collaboration with the European Commission, which has to approve the Government’s strategic lines.

In this regard, Nelson de Souza stresses that the Executive has already defined priorities, in line with the Strategic guidelines that have been released by the Prime Minister and that also guide the action of the European Commission for the coming years.

Thus, Innovation – oriented to the productive area -, R&D and the qualification of Small and Medium Enterprises are assumed as horizontal priorities of the Government in the QREN – National Strategic Reference Framework.
