Portuguese Internet users spend an average of 6.5 hours per week connected to the network, usually to carry out information searches or for leisure, reveals a study carried out by ISCTE.

The preliminary phase of the document presented in a panel dedicated to electronic commerce at the 14th APDC Congress, reveals that 62 percent of users browse between one and five hours a week, while 32.8 percent admit to browsing more than five hours a week.

Most internet users use professional access to perform the necessary tasks, although the data points to a user profile with medium or high levels of training and an average income of 850 euros.

With regard to purchases online ISCTE found that 800 thousand users must have already used the net to purchase goods, with CDs, books and consumer electronics remaining at the top of preferences.

José Crespo de Carvalho from ISCTE underlined that women should be the main recipients of project communication efforts online, since they take the place of decision makers in these matters.

Along with this recommendation, the official recalled that the lack of confidence in the means of payment continues to be one of the main factors for the success of electronic commerce, pointing to Accreditation as a way of crediting projects.

Taking into account the results of the study, which should be finalized next year, José Carvalho believes that it is unlikely that Portugal will absorb pure e-commerce projects, without support in the world. offline. Contributing to the conclusion are issues such as logistics or Internet usage profile. For the person in charge, B2C will remain as another channel operating simultaneously with the traditional offer.
