100,000 electronic export declarations issued by the end of May

Sapo opens laboratory at the University of Aveiro

A new automatic export declaration processing system has been in operation since the beginning of the year, eliminating the use of paper in this procedure. The measure, foreseen in Simplex 2006, has already allowed the electronic issuance of 100,000 statements more quickly and in less bureaucracy, advances Siemens, which implemented the system.

With the introduction of the electronic declaration, it was possible to eliminate the need for recurring delivery of additional documents and to systematize all the information attached to the paper declaration, explains the company.

The project was developed for the General Directorate of Informatics and Support to Tax and Customs Services (DGITA) and the General Directorate of Customs and Special Taxes on Consumption (DGAIEC) that have responsibilities on that procedure.

The first customs offices to receive the new system were those in Lisbon and Leixões, although currently the project has already been extended to the remaining customs offices in the country.
