When in 1998 two university students created a new search engine for the Internet, they were possibly far from thinking about all the influence they would generate with their idea. The search engine grew and the company whose name was inspired by a mathematical term referring to the number 1 followed by 100 zeros – Google – is today an undisputed case of success, «on» and «offline«.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin started their project with four computers and $ 100,000 obtained from an investor who believed in its completion. The company currently has 20,000 employees and a stock market value of $ 150 million, very close to industry giants with decades of history like Microsoft and Apple.

Google’s dimension is huge if we think that it processes two-thirds of all worldwide searches on the Internet, accounting for about 40 percent of advertising online and has access to important information from about 650 million people who use its search service and other products, such as Gmail or YouTube, daily.

Very recently, the company took another step in diversifying its services with the debut of Chrome, an browser Own Internet that competes with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox.

It is impossible to predict what the company will do over the next ten years and how it can evolve, but for Google the sky is certainly not the limit. Incidentally, this can even be said to have been overcome, or Google Maps did not exist …
