Tujuh fungsi Orkut yang 'disalin' oleh jejaring sosial lainnya

MIRC and Orkut, predecessors of Facebook and WhatsApp, were success in the era of slow dial-up Internet, when a telephone line was needed for access. The popularization of the web, in the late 90s, brought strength to social platforms that, until today, provoke nostalgia. With the development of technology, improved platforms enable the use of more sophisticated features, which we currently use, such as Instagram and Twitter.

Social networks are part of the life of Brazilians. About 130 million people are active users of social networks, according to the Digital in 2018 survey, conducted by We Are Social, in January 2018.

MIRC, created in 1995, was a program that connected people around the world through an IRC – in English, Internet Relay Chat, a kind of virtual meeting on several channels (chat rooms). Although it was a revolutionary invention for the time, mIRC did not have support for photos. The identification was made by means of a “nickname”, that is, a nickname.

MSN Messenger was one of the most popular instant messengers in Internet history, launched in 1999 by Microsoft. With a system of easy usability, MSN allowed the sending of text messages, audio, videos and files, besides allowing the creation of groups with friends.

This one, which displaced ICQ, reached the mark of 330 million registrations worldwide in 2009. But, as nothing is forever, years later it ended up losing space to other competitors and ended its activities in the first half of 2013. Then, it migrated users for Skype, instant messaging software also from Microsoft.
